Begging the readers forgiveness a bit, I'm going to cheat a little here and simply link over to the detailed reviews I've been writing over on Amazon.com I'll put in a few quick words here, but for indepth comments on movies I've been watching, check out my Amazon reviews and get the whole story.
Took the opportunity to go catch Iron Man on the medium screen (supposed to have been a big screen, but was showing in one of the smaller type movie houses so still not what I'd call an actual big screen...) yesterday. Definitely a fun flick and worth the price of admission. The action is good, story was not bad, and the movie delivers what the comic book fans or even casual action movie fans would be looking for.
I'm saddened with the passing of Charlton Heston, the actor and former head of the NRA. Heston was a great actor, and a great man. Those that are inclined to do so should do a little research on Heston and his involvement in the civil rights movement, and perhaps some more investigation into his real positions on gun control and the like. Though Heston was the leader of the NRA later in his life, he was long ago associated with those that we now consider some of our more liberal leaders.

I realize that traditional animation is all but dead at Disney. Unfortunately for Disney their last few old style animated tales were basically flops. Outside of Pixar movies, Disney's animated movies of late have been disappointing at the box office, and also somewhat for viewers that grab the DVDs to watch them at home.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of the relatively recent Disney film Meet the Robinsons, which was a darling little movie, but it was not a big hit when it was in ...
Silly question perhaps, but I just can't quite figure out why cartoon movies would ever really have deleted scenes, and most especially why any would ever have bloopers.
Ok, deleted scenes I guess make a little sense because the writers/directors might have created some scenes that they expected to work in the movie and then took out, but bloopers in cartoons?! How?! Created intentionally or not at all, right??
Line-up, neat and orderly like please. After you do that, register your vote for what you think is the best Christmas (or Holiday season) movie/ TV show/ or special ever.
I'm thinking along the lines of A Christmas Story, or It's a Wonderful Life, but perhaps someone wants to lay claim to the honor going to something like Bad (or Badder) Santa. Maybe it's Charlie Brown's Christmas, or Rudolph, or the Macy's Parade, or How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
Anyway, please do tell ...
I'm finally catching up on my TV watching a bit (busy TV season this year, with many new premieres and such, things that kept me from catching up too quickly) and am getting through the last few segments of Ken Burns' The War which aired on PBS not long back.
I wondered why the DVR that I recorded the series on (Windows Vista box running Vista Home Premium with Media Center setup on it) only recorded a few episodes during the second week the series was airing and finally realized why whe...
Recently I left some comments about the new Bruce Springsteen cd (see: Bruce Springsteen Magic - is it really?) where I expressed disappointment in that compilation. I won't rehash my comments here except to say that my thoughts continue to be that I wish that the music on that disc was more like some older favorites.
As a comparison and something to contrast against, I'm sitting here now with Storytellers: Bruce Springsteen on in the background, having recorded the same on my DVR from ...
I keep seeing the ads and trailers for the new movie We Own the Night and all I can think of is haven't I seen that movie before?
Though it doesn't seem to credit back to it, I swear the story is just a dramatic update of a bad 80's Comedy: Johnny Dangerously. (Michael Keaton, Joe Piscopo before he seemed to have roided out, Marilu Henner, etc.)
Hmm, lets see, two brothers, one criminal, the other cop. Yeah, eerily similar.
New TV season seems to have a couple of shows coming up that I'm getting interested in. Let me see if I can dig up the titles/networks real quick: In advance: Thumbs, big toes, and anything else that can point downward to the stupid CAVEMEN show that is coming up on ABC. You couldn't pay me enough money to watch that. I don't even need to see previews of it, as the idea behind it is just stupid. Bad enough to have been fed the stupid commercials for GEICO, but to go ...
So, the other nite I was sitting at home and flipping channels on the TV (because the Nationals had already played a day game and weren't going to be on the TV that evening). With it being the middle of the summer, there's really nothing 'new' on the TV short of more crap like Big Brother, so I cruised past the broadcast channels and wound up landing on USA Network, a channel I haven't gone out of my way to watch in a long, long, time.
As it turned out, they were running a movie I norma...
Unbelievable!!! (sorry co-worker, but I gotta pick on you a bit here, and no, this isn't the co-worker that is leaving soon...)
Co-worker, who just so happens to be the IT Security 'guy' for our area, and just so happened to be walking the halls wearing a Red Shirt had me making light of his Red Shirt, noting that he needed to be careful wearing Red Shirts, especially given his job in the security world....
... only the poor guy had no idea what I was referring to.
Absolutely, dead seri...
NetFlix recently introduced a new feature that lets subscribers Watch videos directly over the internet. The feature is available for some of the many movies that NetFlix has in their catalogue. Notice that said "some" and not all. The selection is typically older titles, titles that have been available in DVD format for quite a while (a random sampling seems to find the titles are normally at least a year older, if not older).
There are of course bandwidth limitations and r...
You may have missed the news entirely, and given the information reported in the article referenced here: Weinstein titles leak to other rental stores I can sort of see why.
In case you weren't aware (and didn't yet click the linked article), sometime back The Weinstein Company signed an exclusivity deal for rental rights with Blockbuster. The idea being that Blockbuster would be the only place to obtain rentals of titles released from The Weinstein Company for a three year period (not ...
Ok, you are on your honor to avoid cheating here, and note in advance that the scoring will all be done by others over the life of this thread. I freely admit to not knowing the answers as I write up things here, though I'm fairly sure I could do some quick web searching to find the answers. Doing that would just take out the fun of things though, so again, please try to avoid the temptation to cheat and simply rely on your brain cells to determine the answers you provide below.
